VentureFounders calls for the government to commit to UK entrepreneurs

James Codling, Co-Founder of VentureFounders, calls for the government to commit to UK entrepreneurs:

“As a nation of entrepreneurs it is essential that the new government throws its support behind entrepreneurship, jobs and wealth creation. Self-employment is at its highest rate in over 40 years and has been instrumental in growing the UK economy and keeping unemployment at a low level.  We are pleased to see that the government’s incentive schemes, EIS and SEIS have encouraged the number of start-ups by offering tax breaks for investors, however more can be done.  We believe that the following measures should be put in place:

  • Supporting and extending the current EIS and SEIS schemes
  • Extending NI breaks for small businesses taking on new staff
  • Overhauling entrepreneur relief, giving entrepreneurs a tax advantage upfront, which could be offset on exit, to support their business if they are employing people
  • Increasing the SEIS limit to £250k

“We call on the government to take these relatively small steps to ensure that the continued success of young entrepreneurial businesses is not jeopardised.”
