60 Second Interview with Marcelo Bravo

What is Oxford Pharmascience?

We are a specialty pharmaceutical company that makes approved and widely used drugs better, much better.

What excites you most about your job?

There is never a dull day. It's intellectually very challenging and I can see the impact of my work. I really love what I do.

Which event in your career- good or bad - taught you the most?

The failure of an early company gave me the freedom to embark on another - which became a great success. I learnt long ago that in crisis there is always opportunity. "Failure" and "success" are just meaningless labels that we assign to events.

Which previous job would you say is most responsible for where you are now?

I always wanted to be an entrepreneur but first I spent many years in a big corporation. That job felt like a prison at times bit it gave me the resolve to become an entrepreneur. Plus, it was a great education in the ways of global business.

If you weren’t the CEO of Oxford Pharmascience, what would you be doing?

I am an entrepreneur by nature, so I would probably be the CEO of another company.  But I am interested in all kinds of things: cycling, swimming, running, sailing, skiing, surfing… So I suppose I would spend more time doing those things.

What would be your specialist subject on Mastermind?

Sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about! I'm a bit like Spock when it comes to popular culture …

What is your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement? I overcame an early life of great adversity and built this wonderful life with my beautiful family.

What are the three creature comforts you take away with you on business?

I have a Yoga mat that goes with me everywhere. That’s all I need really.

And finally… what keeps you awake at night?

Clinical trial results!
